I am not an adventurer - I am, at heart, someone who would rather sit inside something and understand it than move quickly on to the next.
I’ve always enjoyed travelling. With both parents being busy doctors, my dad ensured that we had two annual family vacations mandatorily — one a short week long and one a longer one for a fortnight or more. The ones with friends, camps, relatives’ homes were bonus. Luckily, my spouse enjoys travelling as much so we have continued with long and short vacations with our kids as well.
I started writing about the places we visited when we visited China in 2010. Both my children were undergrads in the US and I simply had to share my experience of the country with them. I was fascinated by China. What started as sharing via an email to them has culminated in me writing about some of the places I visit.
My writings are more my observations about it, anecdotes I hear, interactions I have with the locals, foods we enjoyed and such rather than a travelogue with descriptions of things to see.
I’m drawn to history, to food, to long walks, to the question a place puts to you about your own world. I find the small details tell you more than the monuments.
